PONDERINGS

Smacks of death, say some.
But I smell Mom’s pies. Hear Dad’s
marching band pre-games.

Feel crisp air against
my sometimes still-a-bit-tanned-
from-summertime skin.

Marvel at the sky’s
puffy white and charcoal clouds
in deep blue setting.

Relish the jewel-tones
gradually gracing trees,
begging wonderment.

Enjoy leaves crunching
beneath the tires of my bike,
or cute-boot-dressed feet.

Experience leaves
raked in a pile over my
head, then jumping in.

Savor the taste of
a hardy stew with biscuits,
or bowl of chili.

Memories bring smiles,
like the Robbins Avenue
Pizza (a rare treat),

enjoyed on our porch
after walking home from a
nighttime football game.

Smacks of death, say some.
But my senses are filled with
what I’ve fallen for.

OCTOBER’S SLICK TRICK

Photo by Karolina Grabowska on Pexels.com

Love autumn with all of my all,
‘cept the end of October’s curveball:
Don’t mean to be mean,
but don’t like Halloween!
(Please don’t spook me or trick me, y’all.) 😉

Silence, except a
crackling fire.  Notebook in hand,
thoughts leaking to page.

Remember “Sky Blue?”
For me, it pales to fall’s skies
I call, “Autumn Blue.”

HOCKING HILLS AUTUMN 2019 DAY 3

20191022_134122

I.  Keith hikes Old Man’s Cave
while I purchase a notebook
and count syllables.

II.  I feel sixty one.
Yet I watch older women
hike in their dress shoes.

Conkles Hollow Rim Trail (200 feet above the floor).  Photo by Keith R. Good

Some young couples hike
the rim trail with their babies.
I smile, while cringing.

Hocking Hills Autumn 2019 Day 1

Back to our cabin,
where I found my heart waiting
on the front porch swing.

CHANGE OF SEASON

45734202_10156232942558600_1858494527220744192_n

Scarlet graces black
bough and ground below. Silent
snow spills scant and slow.

Once butter-winged finch
faded, flutters. Winter cinched.
Wonder underway.
