Scarlet graces black
bough and ground below. Silent
snow spills scant and slow.

Once butter-winged finch
faded, flutters. Winter cinched.
Wonder underway.

There came a change
When you and I
Dared become amourus
Desirous
Us.

There came a change –
The momentous occasion
When we became
Wed
And, wed, became
One.

There came a change
When one became
A headstone,
And one became
Alone.
