“Homeland” A Curtal Sonnet

Confession time: I sometimes watch Fox News.
And CNN. And MSNBC.
Still here? Okay. Now let me tell you why:
These folks are out to shape our nation’s views.
And even though I’m thankful speech is free,
Both left and right have somehow gone awry.
I fear our news is, by design, whitewashed.
No more can we agree to disagree.
Our nation needs a friendly meal. With pie.
Let’s eat good food and talk. And then you wash,
I’ll dry.

A couple years ago — and a couple times since — I’ve written poems about the need for this country to recover a sense of civility. Actually, you had to be able to pay attention to know that’s what I was saying in those poems. Your poem hits at a greater portion of the problem. And it is very well done. (Now ’tis time to write about the lack of civil leaders!) 🙂
Hey! It’s Charley from Poetic Asides! Thanks so much for stopping by! And yep, do I ever hear ya. The lack of civil leaders, for sure, and the lack of civility due in large part to social media. How disappointing that if we aren’t looking into one another’s eyes, we become ridiculously cold and mean. Oy …
P.S. I just ran over to your site. “Great poets live on the edge of sanity; mediocre ones reside in the suburbs” is a great cover! 😀
Thank you. It fits me. …both ways!
I love this.
Thank you so much, Sarah!
Love this Marie, and I feel and suffer from the same squint-eyed-news-syndrome malaise. This deserves being in top ten. Well done.
Thank you so much, Damon! And yep, we are in a heap of trouble. But nothing our God is surprised or dismayed by. Counting on Him to pull us through to the other side.
