THIS IS MY KEITH
by Marie Elena
I love, “I love you,”
daily coming from your voice –
confirmed in your eyes.
I love, “I love you,”
emitting from hand-drawn hearts
on scraps of paper.
I love, “I love you,”
proved in daily selfless acts,
both little and vast.
I love, “I love you.”
But I treasure the daily
non-verbal “I do.”

Happy Anniversary, Keith. 30 years of daily thankfulness for the gift of you.
In response to Robert Lee Brewer’s 2021 April PAD Challenge: Day 20 – Writer’s Digest (Day 20: Write a love and/or anti-love poem.)
Ohhhh. Happy Happy Anniversary to two amazing people. I love this.
Thank you so much! ❤
Your poem danced through my mind; misting my eyes with every fluid step, warming my heart with each spontaneous whirl. When I read things like this I am reminded of the mounting evidence that God may make mirrors of our personal milieu; those who judge others feel judged, those who hate others feel hated, those who slight others feel slighted, etc. And so also, the one who loves much, feels love “daily coming from your voice –, emitting from hand-drawn hearts”. I wonder if this is what Jesus was sermonizing about when he said “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38.
The happiest of celebrations to you two.
Oh my. Now MY eyes are misty from your loving and beautifully poetic response. I always lack in my ability to express my love for Keith in words. I’m not a writer of romance, that’s for certain. So thankful this love came across to you. You and Lin … well, I just wish we had come to know each other better long before we did. So thankful for you both! Hugs…
Men are from Mars I’m told, and as such I hate to be the Martian to reveal to you a huge-hearted Venusian that most of the time our quirky half smiles, our spontaneous acts of service, out furtive glances, or sad puppy eyes are really just saying “I longingly love your lasagna”, or “I manically miss your manicotti”. We’re pretty simple creatures, really. But still, your translation is nice too.
You crack me up. 🙂
Gorgeous, Marie! ❤
Happy Anniversary to you and Keith!!! 💕
Thanks so much, Jac! ❤
