We thirst for even a sprinkling of peace,
as we reach the boiling point.

This Land of the Free can’t agree on taking a knee.  But it’s not about the knee.  It’s about equality, and that’s the key to being free, from sea to shining sea.

See?

“Homeland” A Curtal Sonnet

Confession time: I sometimes watch Fox News.
And CNN. And MSNBC.
Still here? Okay. Now let me tell you why:
These folks are out to shape our nation’s views.
And even though I’m thankful speech is free,
Both left and right have somehow gone awry.
I fear our news is, by design, whitewashed.
No more can we agree to disagree.
Our nation needs a friendly meal. With pie.
Let’s eat good food and talk. And then you wash,
I’ll dry.

SEEKING SOFTNESS (#prayforturkey #stopthehate)

Media photo as presented by Photography of Nia

I can’t pretend to understand
As hostile minds, with arms in hand,
Disturb a peaceful country’s night
While innocents hole up in fright.

Another friend, another cry,
Another ally begging, “why?”
Another hashtag adding weight
To those who prompt and spread the hate.

This fallen universe, complex:
While animosity is flexed,
A softness tries to smooth the way
From violent night, to placid day.

Let softness have its gentle sway;
Let mankind not be mankind’s prey.

HAIKU (UNTITLED)

Clouds of witnesses weep

We’ve lost our first Love.
Even clouds of witnesses
Weep over our land.

AND IT’S NEVER OKAY

Bomb or gun
Mass or one

Gay or straight
Hate is hate

Foreign-run
Or homespun

Vain debate
Hate is hate

Deeply flawed
“Under God”

Won’t negate
Hate is hate

Hushed splendor

echoes through rich autumn forests,

softly laden

with a palette of Eden’s origin.

And What of Joy?

270962_427541890600549_157747788_n

This world may have some issues I can’t solve –
Some great enough to trigger pain or fear;
Some threatening to make my life revolve
‘round stresses, whether certain or unclear.

This fallen world may never right its wrongs,
May never be at peace, nor ever learn
The value of a love that seeks and longs
To emanate affection and concern.

Though incidents endeavor to destroy,
To pierce our heart’s contentment as a knife,
My Jesus, how I thank You that my joy
Does not depend on happiness in life!

Unending joy of sinner-been-set-free,
Your grace and mercy are enough for me.
