WHEN THE PURPOSE OF KNEES WAS TO BE SKINNED
by Marie Elena
Splinters were the worst.
Tweezers first;
Needles if needed
While I screamed and squirmed
And wormed my way
Back out to play.
Skipping, flipping
Chipping my tooth
(Now it’th loothe)
Palms muddied
Bloodied nose drips
Split lips
Both knees shredded
Splinter still embedded.

Inspired by the line “when the purpose of knees was to be skinned,” from John Tobias’ Reflections on a Gift of Watermelon Pickle Received from a Friend Called Felicity
(Thanks to my friend Lydia, who gifted me the book that contains John’s poem!)
skinned and shredded knees were once upon a long time ago, badges of courage and honour (as well as, most often than not, sheer stupidity! – LOL)
HA! Right?! 😀
Very cute
Thank you! I tried so hard to find a “free” photo of a child with skinned knees to pair with it, but could not find anything.. I thought that would be so easy to find. So I used my bitmoji. Not quite what I had in mind. 😉
Not always easy to fiond the right image.
Have a great Sunday
It’s been lovely. Hope yours has been as well.
Yes, it has. Thanks
